Thoughts about 2017 from a real "Basic" mom

Usually these newsletters come out around Christmas time along with some cutes pictures from throughout the year or with some really nice professionally done family Christmas Card photos.  But, well, I am a mom and moms are notoriously late.  Also I like to live by the real standard of the word "basic".  Not the Lula roe leggings and Starbucks latte basic, but the sweatpants from Walmart and chocolate milk (because my hot chocolate got cold) kind of "basic"  so after I write this post I'll scroll through the pictures on my phone and see if any are post worthy.  So without anymore excuses, here are some thoughts about my family's 2017.

Bjorn

My wonderful husband Bjorn finally became free of that most awful company Mattress Warehouse Utah and started his own business as an independent financial advisor and planner.  We have so far learned that the 401K is just not cutting it these days.  Other than that Bjorn is much happier with the more flexible schedule and the better job satisfaction of being able to TRULY help people rather than being stuck in a company whose number one method of profit making was to screw it's customers and it's employees.  (I'm not bitter about their treatment of us at all).   What is most important now is how much happier we all are now.

Sabrina

I got a new job this year as Assistant Director at Mathnasium in South Jordan.  It has been fun to brush up on some of the obscure and not so well remembered concepts of math, and pretty validating that I could remember them just as well and even better than the teeny bopper high school math nerds that work there too.  It's a fun part time gig that allows me to assist in providing for our family and to practice flexing my math muscle.  Oh ya and I get to teach again.  Teaching math is fun and now I can write upside down.

Callista

Callista is 8 yrs old now and in 3rd grade.  She changed schools this year from public to a brand new Charter School.  She is doing outstanding in all her subjects and is regularly ranked 1st or 2nd in her class.  She is growing more independent and blossoming into a beautiful young girl.

Ursa

Ursa is 1.5 yrs old and lives up to every expectation and/or stereotype of being a fiery red head.  She started walking at 9 months and we potty trained her at 14 months.  Now we are trying to teach her to stay off the table at mealtimes and to fall asleep on her own, in her own bed, and to be gentle and nice to Yoda.  We are anticipating her starting to talk in the next few months and are super excited for her to start going to nursery at church.  Yay!

Yoda

Yoda our cat switches from being a nice calming lovable part of our family to a loud, smelly pee machine that takes us every bit of self control not to find her a new home.  (We still haven't gotten her fixed though so it's mostly our fault).

That's our 2017 in a 1 page (probably) letter.  I don't have any stamps or addresses though because does anybody even do that anymore? So hopefully the important people find this on my brand new blog and are interested enough to read it.  These are fun.  Now to find a few pictures.
